The Academic Structure
Kingsman International College operates on a Dual-Track Collegiate System, ensuring that while our Sixth Form and Higher Education students inhabit the same vibrant campus, they receive instruction tailored specifically to their developmental stage.
The Sixth Form College (Pre-University)
Our Sixth Form is the bedrock of Kingsman. It is designed for students aged 16-19 who are preparing for university entrance through the British GCE A-Level curriculum. We treat our Sixth Formers not as school children, but as junior academics.
- Curriculum Focus: We specialise in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and the Arts. By narrowing our focus, we ensure that our laboratories and art studios are equipped to a professional standard.
- The Tutorial Method: Inspired by the Oxbridge model, students attend weekly small-group tutorials (1:4 ratio) where they must defend their work and ideas orally. This builds the critical thinking skills necessary for top-tier university admissions.
- University Preparation: A dedicated team of counsellors assists students with applications to universities worldwide, from Helsinki to Harvard, and Oxford to Oulu.
The Higher Education Institute (Undergraduate & Postgraduate)
Our Higher Education division offers boutique degree programmes validated by international partners and aligned with the Bologna Process.
Faculty of Computer Science & Intelligent Systems
- BSc Computer Science: A three-year programme deeply integrated with Oulu’s 6G research ecosystem. Modules include Algorithm Design, Ethical AI, and Nordic Software Engineering practices.
- MSc Data Science: An advanced research degree focusing on big data in cold-climate infrastructures and predictive modelling.
Faculty of Arts & Design
- BA Arctic Design: This programme is unique to Kingsman. It explores the intersection of functionality and aesthetics in extreme environments. Students learn to design for durability, sustainability, and psychological well-being in high-latitude living.
Faculty of Economics & Management
- BSc Sustainable Economics: Moving beyond traditional capitalism, this course examines Circular Economy models, crucial for the future of global business.
Teaching Methodology
We eschew the concept of the “passive lecture hall.” At Kingsman, learning is active.
- Problem-Based Learning (PBL): Particularly in our undergraduate courses, students work in teams to solve real-world problems posed by our industry partners in the Linnanmaa district.
- Cross-Disciplinary Seminars: Once a term, Design students and Engineering students trade places to understand the constraints and languages of each other’s disciplines.
